Hello All,
Join us to Fight Environmental Apartheid in the Shadow of Annexation
In the 1st week of August, the Israeli government decided to HALT 3 out of 4 new waste plans of Waste to Energy facility and to keep advance only 1 plan in the West Bank, in vicinity of Ma'ale Adumim.
The decision to stop the 3 programs within Israel is due to pressure from residents in the center of the country who objected due to the fear of endangering the health of the residents and the lack of information and previous experience in Israel about the method of thermal treatment (incineration) of waste. Make no mistake, AEJI supports the stop but it should be applied to the West Bank at first, as we already claimed at the end of 2019.
A number of reasons why not to build the waste-energy facility near Ma'ale Adumim, in brief:
Violation of international law; Violation of an international convention for waste transboundary transfer; Huge threat for the public health and turning the area's residents into living experience near a facility that Israel itself decided not to promote in the center of the country; Threat to the sensitive ecosystems in the desert area; Staining of the designated location "Good Samaritan site" that has great significance to the heritage of world civilization, identified with the cradle of Christian culture and one of the founding stories of the human good, with the reaching out by the good Samaritan to walk wounded in the desert.
The last week Israeli government decision is realization of the worst case scenario.
Why to join Us?
Because the West Bank is subject to political, legal and international controversy, and opposed to the unilateral annexation that is the will of most Israelis, a public discourse should be held in which the above plans can be discussed as part of a just and bilateral solution for the areas in question. Execution of these plans without fair discussion and involvement of all impacted parties will only increase the alienation and hostility between Israeli and Palestinian populations.
We would be very grateful if you would find it appropriate to support us in this activity.
